The province’s top doctor doesn’t believe there is any concern for people who may be trying to conceive during the ongoing pandemic.
“There’s no evidence that I’ve seen yet that this virus can be transmitted through sexual contact, for example, we know that it is shed in the stool of some people, but as well, there’s not a lot of evidence, or nothing I have seen yet that that’s a mode of transmission between people” says Dr. Bonnie Henry.
“In terms of conception, I don’t see that there’s any issues right now. It might be challenging if you’re sick, but that part, there’s no evidence that we know of.”
Henry says it is following cases of pregnant women around the world and, although the data is small, it doesn’t seem that pregnant women are more susceptible to the virus. She adds that it doesn’t look like the virus can be transmitted to a fetus at this time either.
